As a corporate trainer and curriculum developer, my responsibility was to take the latest change that the company wanted to introduce to employees (new process, new technology, new methodology, new development program, etc.) and customize and deliver it in a way that would help employees learn and apply the change. Over 20 years, I developed, delivered, and supported training, coaching, and communications for about 2000 classes on about 1000 topics ranging from airline reservation systems, to Six Sigma, to customer service and sales skills, to people management and leadership skills, to presentation skills, and even to EBITDA (oh, wasn't that one exciting! LOL!)

One time I remember being "locked up" in a room for three days with the task of figuring out how to make sense of a specific company's incredibly complex travel reservation reporting requirements in a way that would work with our technology, work with the flow of processes managed by our travel counsellors, and provide the company with reports they could work with. I got this job because I had a knack for making complicated things less complicated, although my boss at the time did mention some concern when he saw the room I was working in... walls covered with flipchart paper tracking process flows, process dead ends, and exception processing, so that it looked like something from the movie A Beautiful Mind.

The truth is I really enjoyed making complicated things uncomplicated, and finding ways to make what employees would often see as the latest "corporate make-work project" into something in which they could find their own relevance or possibility, and therefore have less challenge in applying.

And then one day, God, in his/her infinite wisdom, decided to introduce me to something that is so incredibly simple that it actually can't be made any simpler, and yet at the same time, defies ALL attempts at explaining it. Just putting it into words or any explanation of its form, ends up diminishing it. "Well yah, that's it, but not quite it, and well, it's everything and at the same time it's nothing, and well, I'm pointing to it, but it's invisible... can you see it yet?" I think God has a seriously wicked sense of humour.

What I'm now trying to explain as a Three Principles Practitioner isn't something that we get at the level of our intellect, but is something we somehow intuit... kind of like suddenly getting the feel of balance when learning to ride a bike. Anyone can explain balance to us so that it makes logical sense, but we just don't get it until we get it. We don't stop from falling over until something clicks inside of us at a deeper level than our intellectual knowledge of it.

So despite my knack for making the complicated uncomplicated, I'm now working in a field where most of the time I feel like a blithering idiot. But because I "got my balance" on Friday, May 24th, 2013, and have been living in a completely different world since then, it doesn't make any sense to go back to what I was teaching and coaching before.
